Setting off after breakfast, you reach Union Square in a twenty-minute walk. From there the city unfolds naturally: the Black Eagle, the Moon Church, the City Hall Tower, then the Fortress and, on the way back, the Zion Synagogue, the theatre and Republicii Street with its palaces. You return to the hotel towards evening, with a wealth of memorable impressions.

This is where picture-postcard Oradea begins: City Hall with its tower, the Black Eagle Palace, the bishop’s palace and three historic churches, all around the same square.

The most monumental Secession building in the city. We recommend stepping into the glass-roofed arcade to admire the stained-glass window with the black eagle.

On the tower, a sphere one metre in diameter turns to show the phases of the Moon, driven by a mechanism installed in 1793.

The tower, almost 50 metres high, offers three panoramic levels over the historic centre, while the clock’s giant hammers strike every quarter of an hour.

One of the few bastion fortresses in Romania, with a pentagon-shaped princely palace. We recommend a stroll along the walls and a visit to the inner courtyard.

On the banks of the Crișul Repede, the 16-windowed dome of the Zion Synagogue makes one of the loveliest views in the city.
